The nail polishes are now completely free of Styrene / Acrylates Copolymer, a commonly used adhesive in nail polishes, which according to some definitions is called liquid microplastic.

Application

• Cleanse your nails and remove oily residue.
• Then apply a layer of base coat. We recommend using the Vegan Base Coat.
• After the base coat has dried, apply the nail polish thinly two to three times.
• Finally, use the Vegan Top Coat.
• We also recommend that you paint your nails completely once or twice a week for additional care.

New recipe

Not only have we expanded our “free from” list to 15 (instead of 14), we now also have a generally improved recipe. Don't worry, it's pretty similar to our previous formula, but some ingredients have been removed and others added. Check out the Tabelle below so that you can compare our new recipe with the previous one.

The changes in the recipe may be minor, but their effects are significant, and here's why:

1. FREE OF MICROPLASTICS

The first major difference between the previous and the new formulation is that we do not have any styrene / acrylates copolymer or acrylates copolymer in our new formulation. When we started looking for a new nail polish formulation, we wanted to see if we could develop one without the two ingredients. Depending on the definition, they are sometimes classified as microplastics and sometimes not. However, over the years we have also learned a lot more about microplastics in general, and although Styrene / Acrylates Copolymer and Acrylates Copolymer are not officially classified as microplastics (because they are not solid), they are often referred to as liquid forms of microplastics.

2. WITH MALTOL

Another small but significant difference is the inclusion of maltol in our new formulation. Maltol is a naturally occurring organic compound that is widely used as a flavoring agent. In our nail polish, however, we didn't use maltol for the taste, but for something completely different. It has been shown that maltol significantly minimizes the formation of nitrosamines, which can be formed in very small quantities from nitrocellulose. This is really groundbreaking because it's next to impossible to make a nail polish without nitrocellulose that lasts long, doesn't chip too quickly, and dries quickly enough. Most nail polishes on the market, regardless of whether they are pollutant-free or more natural, contain nitrocellulose. So we're very happy that we found an ingredient that significantly minimizes the potential formation of nitrosamines from nitrocellulose.

3. MADE WITH 100% VEGETABLE SOLVENTS

One of the main ingredients in a nail polish is its solvents, and in our formulation we use ethyl acetate and butyl acetate. These can be obtained either petrochemically or vegetable. In our nail polish colors, these ingredients are 100% of vegetable origin.

4. ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NAIL POLISH

While a nail polish can never be 100% natural, recyclable and / or biodegradable, we've done our best to develop the most environmentally friendly version of a nail polish we could make. Not only are the solvents in our nail polish colors 100% of vegetable origin (instead of petrochemical origin), our nail polishes also contain no styrene / acrylates copolymer or acrylates copolymer (according to some definitions referred to as liquid microplastic), which is found in almost all other nail polishes , whether conventional or natural, are included. In addition, we made a conscious decision to use 5ml bottles so that we can minimize unnecessary nail polish waste. In addition, we do not use any plastic in our packaging and only FSC-certified and / or recycled paper. We think Kia-Charlotta nail polishes are pretty much the most sustainable option you can find on the market.

5. HIGHEST QUALITY

Our mission at Kia-Charlotta is to produce 100% vegan make-up and nail polish products in premium quality. This means that we do not compromise and try to find the perfect balance between quality and safe / natural and vegan ingredients. Even if we avoid the most harmful ingredients and ingredients of animal origin, you can be sure that we will not compromise on quality. Our nail polishes last between 4-7 days on average and have a beautiful, opaque, glossy finish.
