Suma is known in South America as Brazilian ginseng or as Para Toda, which means "for everything".

For generations, indigenous peoples of the Amazon have used suma root for a variety of therapeutic purposes, including as an energy, rejuvenating and sex tonic, and as a panacea for many types of ailments.

Suma has been used as an aphrodisiac, sedative and to treat ulcers for at least 300 years. It is an important herbal remedy in the folk medicine of several rainforest Indian tribes.

Application

• Add 1 tablespoon to warm water, cocoa, coffee, smoothie, juice or your favorite tea. Or sprinkle over food.

• Recipe Tip: Adaptogenic Chai with Suma 
• 200ml water, 120ml milk/non-dairy milk, 2 teaspoons coconut sugar, 1 tablespoon black tea (empty a tea bag if you don't have loose tea on hand), 1-2 teaspoons suma
• Optional: some cardamom, cinnamon, ginger and/or a pinch of fennel seeds
• Preparation: Bring the water and milk to a simmer in a saucepan with the desired spices. Reduce the heat to the lowest level and add the tea. Steep for about 3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the tea turns a deep, brownish color. Strain into a mug and stir in sugar to taste.
