    Safety razors & accessories

The history of hair removal goes back a long way. In ancient Egypt, women removed their body hair on their legs and in the genital area for aesthetic reasons. Body hair was also not considered civilized in ancient Greece at certain epochs and by the Romans. Smooth skin corresponds to many people's perception of beauty.

For women who want to remove body hair for aesthetic or hygienic reasons, there are several options to choose from: shaving, depilatory cream, epilation, waxing, sugaring or laser treatment. We offer high-quality and sustainable safety razors with which you can easily and safely achieve a smooth and uncomplicated shave.

Conventional multi-blade razors – Not the best choice for smooth skin

There are different types of commercially available razors. Disposable razors are made entirely of plastic, with the exception of the blades, and should only be used once and then disposed of, which leads to considerable waste if used regularly. Conventional multi-blade razors have a plastic or metal handle and replaceable blade heads. Although these initially appear more sustainable than disposable razors, the blade heads contain a considerable amount of plastic, which greatly affects their sustainability. In addition, the blades of conventional razors become blunt quickly, which increases the risk of injuries when shaving and promotes the formation of ingrown hairs.

Safety razor as a sustainable and safe alternative

Safety razors, on the other hand, are made entirely of stainless steel or brass and usually have a single blade or, more rarely, two blades made of steel. These blades are sharper than those of standard disposable razors or multi-blade systems and therefore need to be replaced less often.

Although safety razors initially seem more expensive than conventional razors, in the long run they are worth a small investment. They are extremely durable and the replacement blades are significantly cheaper than those for conventional razors. And of course the aspect of sustainability also plays a major role - Safety Razors do not produce any plastic waste and are therefore an environmentally friendly method of hair removal.

The guide to shaving with a safety razor

When switching from conventional razors to safety razors, there are a few things you should pay special attention to when using them in order to achieve a smooth and close shave.

    Take your time

Instead of trying to shave as quickly as possible, consider shaving a little self-care ritual. How about a nice hot shower, a soothing body peeling and then methodically and carefully shave so that you don't miss anything.

    Shower and exfoliate

For an optimal shave, make sure your skin is warm, clean and, ideally, freshly exfoliated. After a thorough exfoliation in the shower, shaving is super easy.

    Apply shaving oil or soap

Depending on your personal preference, use shaving oil or soap and lather the skin well. It is advisable to only lather the area that is to be shaved - step by step, so to speak. If you use shaving oil, it is best to wash your hands briefly with soap so that you have a good grip.

    Do not exert any pressure

The razors are made of solid brass or stainless steel and have a nice weight. Let the razor glide over the skin without applying additional pressure. A good rule of thumb is to position the razor at an angle of around 30 degrees.

Shave with or against the hair growth?

The choice between shaving with or against hair growth often depends on the body region.

On the legs, where the skin is less sensitive, shaving against the direction of hair growth usually works well and ensures a close shave in just one pass.

For the armpits, it is recommended to first shave with the direction of hair growth, then slightly tighten the skin and make a second pass against the direction of hair growth, but without applying pressure.

In the bikini area, also start with the hair growth, then follow with a pass across the hair growth to achieve a smooth shave, avoiding any additional pressure.

    Keep the razor blade clean

After a few passes, rinse the razor head. It is best to hold the razor head and loosen it half a turn. Then clean the razor head of any deposits (hair, skin, oil, grease, etc.) under the tap or in a small bowl of water. Keeping the blade clean and sharp is important to avoid skin irritation.

    Keep the blade sharp

A sharp razor blade is key to avoiding irritation and ingrown hairs. It is best to change the blade after three to four shaves. The cost of the blades is low, so frequent replacement is quite possible. Collect the used blades in a small container and dispose of them.

Conclusion: Sustainable and effective hair removal with safety razors

Safety razors offer an environmentally friendly, cost-effective and thorough alternative to conventional razors. While disposable and multi-blade plastic razors generate significant amounts of waste and become blunt quickly, safety razors are characterized by their durability and minimal plastic consumption. The sharp steel blades need to be changed less often, which reduces the risk of injury and the formation of ingrown hairs.

To get the best results with a safety razor, it is important to take your time shaving, prepare the skin and avoid applying pressure. Proper blade care and application technique can ensure a smooth and close shave.

Invest in a safety razor to protect both your skin and the environment and save costs in the long run.
