Squalane is a mild, non-comedogenic Olive oil, which leaves the skin feeling silky soft. Squalane is a natural component of our skin barrier and is therefore very well absorbed. It protects the skin from moisture loss and prevents the oxidation of the skin's own fats. The regenerating squalane oil prevents Skin aging before, can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, makes the skin supple and soft and promotes the oxygen supply and regeneration of the cells. It is also very suitable as a carrier oil to transport active ingredients deep into the skin. It is usually obtained from olive oil, more rarely from rice germ or wheat germ oil. For cosmetics, the reaction-prone squalene is converted into squalane. Squalane no longer contains any unsaturated compounds and is therefore resistant to oxidation and has a long shelf life. Squalane was originally extracted from shark liver, hence the name. Squalus is the Latin name for shark. Unfortunately, squalane from shark liver is still often used in conventional cosmetics.
