Hyperpigmentation

Filter

Hyperpigmentation is defined as small to medium-sized spots on the skin that are darker than the rest of the area. These so-called pigment spots can have a brown, yellowish or reddish color and can have various causes.

In any case, an increased melanin level is responsible for the spots. Melanin is the pigment responsible for coloring the skin, hair and eyes. An increase in melanin levels can be triggered by hormonal fluctuations, such as during pregnancy, by medication, cosmetics or sunlight. In many cases, the spots disappear by themselves after a while, but it can happen, especially in older women over 50, that the pigment spots remain. In these cases, skin care products with brightening and smoothing vitamin C can help. But other natural active ingredients such as vitamin A acid, liquorice root or niacinamide can also alleviate hyperpigmentation and prevent the formation of new spots.
